2. Attivita` sociali passate e future

Il Magazzeno Storico Verbanese si scusa con quanti sono iscritti da tempo alla newsletter, se trovano talvolta nelle newsletter ripetizioni delle notizie relative alle attivita` in corso: cio` e` dovuto al continuo flusso di nuovi iscritti alla newsletter, che si vorrebbe non privare di informazioni ancora valide.

Ringraziamo quanti hanno gia` prenotato copie della pubblicazione cartacea del manoscritto settecentesco ``La Verita` smascherata`` (311 schede genealogiche di famiglie lombarde e piemontesi con presenza a Milano tra XIV e XVIII secolo), con una breve introduzione e indice sommario. Altri interessati all`acquisto potranno fare prenotazione libera delle copie desiderate scrivendo a segreteria@verbanensia.org o info@verbanensia.org. Il volume verra` distribuito a partire dalla fine di maggio a quanti lo prenotino.

Ricordiamo a soci e sostenitori di rinnovare l`associazione 2009. Ai soci 2009 verra` fatto omaggio di un volume tra quelli delle passate pubblicazioni del MSV; ai soci e sostenitori del Magazzeno Storico Verbanese che debbano ancora regolare la quota sociale 2008, raccomandiamo di contribuire alla vita del sodalizio con un piccolo sforzo, che significa molto per mantenere viva e vitale la cultura delle nostre terre.

Ringraziamo gli studiosi e gli appassionati che hanno cominciato a rispondere all`appello del Magazzeno Storico Verbanese con contributi di trascrizioni e articoli, che nei prossimi tempi verranno pubblicati nel sito sociale. Ringraziamo gli otto collaboratori che si sono prodigati perche` nel giro di circa dieci mesi venisse condotta a termine la pubblicazione elettronica delle 430 pagine del volume ``Le Rive del Verbano`` di Giovanni Giuseppe Vagliano (Milano 1710). Si e` gia` cominciata una seconda opera di trascrizione, consistente nella pubblicazione in formato elettronico della ``Relazione sulla Esposizione Agricola-Industriale-Artistica del Lago Maggiore e suoi Versanti`` (Pallanza 1870), e due redattori del MSV stanno intraprendendo una terza trascrizione di un raro testo aronese del 1720. Si cercano volontari e studiosi che siano disposti a fornire aiuto e tempo per la trascrizione delle raccolte di statuti comunali, o di altro tipo (quali quelle preparate da Emilio Anderloni e Pietro Sella nel 1914), che si vorrebbe pubblicare sistematicamente nei prossimi tempi in modo da fornire agli studiosi e agli specialisti, nel sito sociale del Magazzeno Storico Verbanese, un unico punto di raccolta e di confronto delle versioni, varianti, tra i testi conosciuti degli Statuti comunali del Verbano.

3. Il MSV si presenta... - parti e sezioni del sito

Chi segue da tempo i lavori del Magazzeno certo e` abituato a girovagare tra le pagine delle diverse sezioni per trovare notizie, dati, o semplicemente curiosita`; tuttavia vi e` anche chi si accosta al MSV per la prima volta, e chi non e` abituato a utilizzare gli strumenti che la banca dati del MSV mette a disposizione. E` sembrato dunque conveniente iniziare, con la Newsletter di Novembre 2007, una panoramica su tutto il sito del MSV, per illustrare le sezioni in cui il sito e` diviso, cosi` da agevolarne la consultazione o per far scoprire rive e isole non ancora esplorate nel corso della navigazione.

Sezione VII - Miscellanea - Sottosezione V, Industrie ed esercizi commerciali verbanesi

Questa sezione del Magazzeno e` costituita da una sorta di ``bazaar`` in cui trova posto tutta la documentazione che sfugge alle altre sezioni del sito sociale.
Miscellanea e` sezione costituita da sei sottosezioni, alcune assai corpose.

La quinta sottosezione, `Industrie ed esercizi commerciali verbanesi``, ad oggi ricca di circa 750 schede, cataloga ragioni sociali di botteghe, esercizi commerciali, industrie, alberghi; si cerca di tracciarne per sommi capi la storia, il periodo di fioritura, accludendo alla scheda le intestazioni di fatture, carte da lettera, ricevute, e altra documentazione, spesso elegante e graficamente di alta qualita`.

4. Curiosita` dal sito del MSV...

Un transfrontaliero mordace da Cannobio a Locarno...

Il Corriere del Verbano del 3 aprile 1889 segnala come un cane idrofobo, dopo aver morsicato un uomo e una bambina a Cannobio, fuggendo verso Locarno, venne finalmente abbattuto nella cittadina elvetica, non senza aver morsicato altre persone. Dalle analisi condotte all棚stituto antirabbico di Milano, ove i resti erano stato mandati, il cane fu trovato affetto da idrofobia; il medico responsabile telegrafo` di inviarvi i i feriti, che furono sottoposti alla ``cura Pasteur`` allora in voga.

2. MSV Past and Future Activities

The Magazzeno Storico Verbanese apologizes to those who have long been receiving our newsletters if they sometimes find in them the repetition of news referred to the activities in progress: it`s because we have a continuous flow of people newly registered with the newsletter and we don`t want to deprive them of still valid pieces of information.

We remind members and supporters who still haven`t done it, to renew their membership for the year 2009. To 2009 members we will give a free copy of a volume from among the ones already published by MSV; we recommend members and supporters who still have to confirm their membership for the year 2008, to contribute to the life of our association with a small effort, which means a lot to keep the culture of our lands alive and vital; at the same time we remind them that next year some important novelties are in store for our faithful members and supporters.

We warmly thank all those who have already booked copies of the print edition of the 18th century manuscript ``La Verita` smascherata`` (311 genealogical cards of Lombard and Piedmontese families who were present in Milan between XIV and XVIII centuries), with a brief introduction and a table of contents. If some more people wish to buy the volume, they can freely book the copies they need writing to segreteria@verbanensia.org o info@verbanensia.org. The book will be sent to subscribers starting with end of May.

We thank all the experts and enthusiasts who have started answering the call from Magazzeno Storico Verbanese with contributions of transcriptions and articles, which will be published in our social site quite soon. We also thank those (eight collaborators, in fact!) who have done their best to carry out, in just about ten months, the electronic publication of the 430 pages of the volume ``Le Rive del Verbano`` by Giovanni Giuseppe Vagliano (Milano 1710). We have already started a second work of transcription: it`s the electronic publication of the ``Relazione sulla Esposizione Agricola-Industriale-Artistica
del Lago Maggiore e suoi Versanti`` (Pallanza 1870). Two members of the editorial staff of MSV are going to start a third transcription of a rare Aronese text dating back to 1720.
The Magazzeno Storico Verbanese is looking for volunteers and experts who are willing to offer some help and time for the transcription of the collections of municipal statutes or other (such as the ones drawn up by Emilio Anderloni and Pietro Sella in 1914), which we would like to publish systematically in the future, so as to offer researchers and experts a single point (in the social site of MSV) where the different versions of the unknown texts of municipal statutes of Verbano are gathered and compared.

3. The MSV introduces itself... sections of the social website.

Those who have been following the activities of MSV for some time are already used to surfing the pages of the different sections to find news, data, or mere curiosities. On the other hand, there are people who have just started getting in touch with MSV and some of them still don`t master the instruments which the databank of MSV places at the visitors` disposal. That`s why, starting from the newsletter of November 2007, a general survey of MSV site has been provided, with a detailed illustration of the different sections of the site. Our aim is to favour consultation and help visitors discover banks and isles not yet explored during their surfing.

Section VII - Miscellanea - Subsection V, Industrie ed esercizi commerciali verbanesi (Industries and Commercial Enterprises)

This section consists in a sort of ``bazaar`` where are stored all the documents and records that can`t be ascribed to any other section of the social site.
Miscellanea is a section made up of six sub-sections, some of which are very rich.

The fifth subsection, `Industrie ed esercizi commerciali verbanesi`` (Industries and Commercial Enterprises), with its 750 files, is a catalogue of the business names of shops, bars and restaurants, factories, hotels; we try to give a general outline of their history, and flourishing period, enclosing in the file the headings of invoices, writing papers, receipts and other documents, often particularly refined and graphically high-quality.

4. Curiosa from the MSV website...

A snapping across-the-border dog from Cannobio to Locarno...

The Corriere del Verbano of 3rd April 1889 reports that a rabid dog, after biting a man and a little girl in Cannobio, running off towards Locarno, was  at last killed in the Swiss town, not before biting some other peope. The tests carried out by the anti-rabies Institute  of Milan, where the dead animal was taken, proved that the dog was hydrophobic; the doctor in charge of it telegraphed they should send there the wounded people, who were subjected to Pasteur treatment as they used to in those times.
